“Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things”

I can’t quite put my finger on it, but this song (“My Favorite Things” from The Sound of Music) has been bouncing around in my head all the while I play with these rich purples in our Superwash DK. The tune was so insistent that I had to write out my own lyrics for it to go along with the project …

“Amethyst dresses with birch satin sashes
Purple-y colours that fill my yarn stashes
Slick silver needles that knit pretty things
These are a few of my favorite things”

Haha! Not too shabby, huh? Oh, these favorite things of mine all rolled into one: a dreamy yarn in stunning, jewel-toned purple. It’s quite nearly a match made in heaven. And it fits beautifully inside the end-of-summer lifestyle going on right now … the last vestiges late-blooming flowers, plucking the last dark berries off the vine, leaves showing their very first hints of the auburn reds and oranges to come … It is my very favourite time of year, where the days are still warm but the winds carry just enough of that crisp scent to remind you that fall is on its way. It’s all about transitional knits that are lightweight and soft, while easing you into cozy warmth. Superwash DK seems to harness all of that late-summer inspiration to dole out in every little stitch you knit.

And the purples! Empress and Amethyst. Richly satisfying, luxuriously captivating. Hues that reach right into the heart of you, pulling you into daydreams of nobility and comfort, enchantment and mystery. I can envision deep goblets of sweet burgundy wine, lush grapes harvested before the first frost, captivating sunset amidst the Smokey Mountains. It’s all a bit romantic, but, what can I say? Purple … it’s one of my favourite things!

The resulting fabric is soft, lofty, and almost lilting like a song. Lovely in drape and deliciously wearable for every season. What do you think? If you up for it, try play with the pattern in a two-colour design! Try some of these colour suggestions and let me know what you think!
