Returning home to my comfort zone, these are all my favourite hues blended into one gentle and restful handpainted skein. The rich chocolately auburn brown, with the deep and vibrant purple blue, and a shot of my favourite magenta. It’s something to wrap up and relax in. Time to hibernate.
Colour // Hibernate, by Felicia Lo
For months now… nay, years… I’ve been encouraging knitters and makers to step outside their comfort zone with their colour choices and their yarn or fibre decisions. Don’t like yellow? Give it a try! Not sure about mohair? Why not add a touch to your project to see what happens?!
For myself, as well, I’ve been toeing at that edge of my own comfort zone all year, pushing myself beyond what I thought I could ever do (hello YouTube?!). This year, I challenged myself to start several new projects and in doing so I’ve come face-to-face with and defeated many of my personal creative demons this year. Generally creative fears around not doing enough, not being enough, not trying hard enough, not learning enough, and on it goes. They are creative fears that we all hold and we all deal with them differently. For better or for worse, I plunge into new projects quickly, creating a wake of yarn swatches, glitter, and fiber dust wherever I go. Winter comes and now it’s time to rest. Time to do a clean sweep, relax into my favourite things and enjoy some comfort. How will you hibernate this winter?
Yarn // CashLuxe Fine
CashLuxe Fine is our very popular 3-ply fingering weight merino, cashmere and nylon (MCN) blend. With 20% cashmere content, this yarn is deliciously soft and cushy. The 10% nylon gives the yarn more strength to withstand wear. And the superwash merino in this blend makes for an easy care yarn.
Fibre // BFL + Silk
BFL+Silk is one of my absolute favourite fibre blends! It is a beautifully lustrous and luxurious blend of 75% Bluefaced Leicester wool and glittery 25% Tussah Silk. While BFL is soft and glossy on its own, it’s generally considered a longer-stapled wool which can lend to feeling coarser (than fibres like Merino or Polwarth). The raw silk in this blend adds to the softness and shine making this an indulgence to spin.

Each month, we dyed a brand new, unique colourway for our Spinning Fibre and Sock Yarn Clubs. This post is all about what we sent out to our members in December 2017.
