Twist Collective Spring 2011 launches today and we’re so excited to see Susanna IC’s beautiful new Vesna lace designs in our Merino Silk Lace and Merino Silk Fine yarns. Here’s all about them:

Inspiration for Vesna (Spring in several Slavic languages) comes directly from the beautiful Estonian stitches. Their intricate shapes are evocative of nature in springtime, all fresh and new, bursting with flowers and leaves.

The rectangular stole is knit in two halves from a temporary cast on at the center down to both ends. The main body of the shawl is worked in a simple floral pattern, which flows seamlessly into the more elaborate lace border. This pattern features traditional nupps for added surface texture, but these can be replaced with beads or omitted altogether.

The crescent shawlette is knit in one piece starting at the top edge followed by short rows, which give the shawl its elegant crescent form. Optional beads, reminiscent of sparkling dewdrops, add extra interest and texture to this project.
