August 2015 // Merino+Tencel and Twinkle Sock
So I recently celebrated a birthday that makes me a little bit older, a little bit wiser, and a whole lot closer to that milestone birthday. It’s probably natural now, moreso than ever, to feel the desire to never grow up. To live permanently in Neverland — in a state of constant joy and fun, devoid of responsibility. I imagine a place like Neverland to be lush and verdant, full of fresh air and a cool breeze, surrounded by sparkling, crystalline blue water. Where I get to both snowboard and surf on the same day. Where I get to enjoy the high metabolism of my misguided youth.
But this isn’t a story about getting older and being all morose or melancholy about it. Rather, it makes me remember the time when I overheard some women chatting at a spinning retreat. One asked the other, “what do you remember as being your best decade of your life?” and the woman replied, “Oh definitely my 60’s. Life started getting good in my 60’s.”
Time after time, I think back to that reply and it always makes me think that the best is yet to come. There is even more in store.
