December 2015 // Bluefaced Leicester, Glitterati Sock
At SweetGeorgia, we are blessed with a great team of dyers, most of whom are also artists working in other media. This year we welcomed Ray Tse to our studio. He is a very talented ceramics and wood artist originally from Hong Kong and now an artist-in-residence at the Port Moody Arts Centre in Canada. This month, we feature a colourway designed by Ray. Here is his colour story:
I have fond memories of how my family spent Christmas time when I was young… trimming the Christmas tree, sharing a nice hearty home-cooked meal together and then going to church to carol the night away. It was simple, yet gratifying to my soul. This will be the 7th year since arriving to Vancouver by myself to study/work and this time of the year has always been when I miss them most. Over here, I have been blessed with a very close group of friends to celebrate Christmas, attending larger gatherings with greater fanfare. But in the midst of it all, I reminisce wistfully back to the Christmas days long past and wonder when we will celebrate Christmas as a family together again. Wistmas is divided into two sections with the colourful side representing the fun, higher energy celebration with friends. The other side symbolizes the time spent with family which can be simple and undecorated, yet full of love.
