Spinning Classes with Rachel Smith
Our Spinning Classes at SweetGeorgia have been re-structured this year to provide better flexibility for our students!
The 9-week Wheel Spinning Course with instructor, Rachel Smith, is now offered in two sessions! The Beginner sessions run for 4 weeks, starting on Wednesday, April 12 and the Intermediate sessions run for 5 weeks, beginning on Wednesday, May 24, 2017. Join just the Beginner sessions, just the Intermediate sessions, OR join us for all NINE weeks of spinning (plus two weeks of practice time)!
Over the course of nine weeks, students will receive an in-depth introduction to the skills required to spin your own yarn for knitting or weaving. Students will learn the basics of how to use a spinning wheel, develop familiarity with different types of fibre, learn to create the type of yarn they desire, and how to play with colour.
- Classes take place from 7:30 to 9:30 pm on Wednesday nights
- Class fees includes materials
- A limited number of spinning wheels will be available to rent at no additional cost (deposit required). First come, first served.
- Optional materials list for students: pencil, paper, camera. If you have a spinning wheel, please bring it. Also, if you have a lazy kate, 3-4 empty bobbins, and a niddy noddy.
Classes are held at the SweetGeorgia Yarns Studio at 110-408 East Kent Avenue South near Main Street and Marine Drive in Vancouver. Access to transit is very limited. Plenty of free parking is available.
Rachel is an experienced, passionate spinner, and blogger with a background in education. She’s been spinning and writing about our monthly Fibre Club for over a year now and we are thrilled to have her teach spinning at the SweetGeorgia Studio.
