Rae KAL and SGY Winter KAL

Following up with my previous post about my unproductive knitting habits, I seem to recall that I’ve always done the most productive knitting when I’ve knit with other people. The winter Olympic KAL has been one that’s pushed me to finish some gargantuan (for me) projects like the Peacock Feather Shawl and my first Swallowtail Shawl. And it just so happens that there are two KALs starting up right now that might be a good push in the direction of winter knitting…

Rae KAL

The ever lovely Jane Richmond designed this unique and simple long triangle shawl with our cashmere sock yarn, CashLuxe Fine. It’s called Rae and here is Jane’s description of it:

Rae is a long triangular scarf just the right length to wrap around the neck once. Garter stitch is knit to a looser gauge to create a wonderfully stretchy fabric that drapes nicely. Designed for cooler summer nights and coastal breezes, this scarf can take you through all of the seasons. The shape and weight are ideal to wear underneath a coat, the tapered ends minimize bulk and can be tucked in to look more like a cowl. Excellent for beginner knitters and an easy mindless knit for more advanced knitters.

Jane’s currently hosting a Rae KAL and we’re offering up a skein of CashLuxe Fine in the colourway of your choice as the first place prize for the KAL. Sign ups are open until November 15th, so head on over and give it a go. AND as a bonus, if you sign up before October 31st, Jane will send you a coupon code for a discount off the pattern.

By the way, if you haven’t seen it yet, check out Jane’s newest cardigan design, Audrey. It’s a gorgeous, seamless sweater knit from the top-down in garter stitch using our Tough Love Sock. Jane came by our booth at Fibres West earlier this year and picked up a few skeins in Goldmine and this is what she designed with it! Love it!

SweetGeorgia Winter KAL

Our new and fabulous Ravelry forum mod, Susan, is organizing a SweetGeorgia KAL hosted on the Sweet SweetGeorgia Ravelry group forum. There are prizes for this KAL too! The rules are simple: 1) You get one entry for using a SweetGeorgia pattern. 2) You get a BONUS entry for using a SweetGeorgia PAID pattern (North Wind hat or Creekside Cables hat. 3) You get one entry for using a SweetGeorgia yarn. Head over to the Ravelry post to enter your project in the KAL. This KAl begins October 1st and ends January 31, 2012.

Good luck with all your winter knitting!
