I was inspired by a reversible cable stitch pattern I found in a knitting book, and tweaked it slightly to my preference. As a contrast to the vertical lines of the cable I wanted horizontal lines and opted for garter stitch. All inspired by their texture and sculptural feel, well suited to my architectural history background. I enjoy working cables, especially those extra challenging ones because the reward is extra texture or reversible cables.
Our Superwash DK lends a stunning lightness to this perfect fall accessory, Aine, by Linda Marveng. A striking reversible cowl, named after the ancient Irish word meaning ”radiant,” is a rich, yet deliciously easy combination of cables, garter, and moss stitch. The textural patterning is a pleasure on its own, but becomes brilliant when paired with the lavish colour of hand-dyed yarn.
Linda’s tip for knitting Aine
I prefer knitting cables without a cable needle unless they are very wide cable across many stitches. I remind myself that the yarn needs to go opposite way to the cable needle so if you are to hold it in front you place the yarn across the back of those stitches. Behind the Brilliance: Linda’s Five Faves
Favourite way to spend Saturday morning: Meeting friends at a coffee shop for a long chat and some knitting.
Favourite knitting tool or fiber: Signature circular needles with a stiletto point and my name on them.
Favourite guilty pleasure: Eating licorice on Saturday nights while watching a movie, causing only a temporary break in my knitting.
Favourite colour: For the time being it is lilac, but I do love strong bold colours such as orange, lime green and teal.
Favourite thing to wear in the fall: I tend to wear more than one cowl at a time during the fall and winter here in my native Oslo in Norway. The first one I pick is one that compliments what other knitted item I am wearing while the second and third, if the temperature is well below zero, will be for extra warmth and comfort.
