The idea came to me while I was wearing another one of my knitted cowls. Though the cowl was lovely and smooshy, the round shape didn’t quite cover that gap where my jacket opened up. I combined that observation with the fact that I love wearing my triangular shawls bandana-style, but find them troublesome to keep in place. A bandana-style cowl was born!

Shireen Nadir’s effortless cowl, Siesta, is a must for the autumn season, especially when knit in the new oh-so-gorgeous CashLuxe Spark. Amazingly soft texture and a unique construction make this cowl a favorite that you’ll knit over and over again. You’ll love the way the delicate twisted rib subtly pops off the fabric and when paired with the delicate twinkle of our new CashLuxe Spark, it equals pure enchantment.

Shireen’s tip for knitting Siesta

Definitely use stitch markers where indicated on the pattern to mark the place between the cable and the main body. The slipped stitch and the yarn over like to switch places when you’re not looking, and it can make your edging look messy and irregular. Stitch markers are the key to keeping those 2 separated.

Behind the Brilliance: Shireen’s Five Faves

Favourite way to spend Saturday morning: When the work week is done my husband and I love to load up the car with camera equipment and road trip!

Favourite knitting tool or fiber: I’m a sucker for alpacas. I love how cute and gentle they are, how soft the wool is and how beautifully it spins. I’ve even helped shear my friends herd, what an adventure!

Favourite guilty pleasure: Bacon and maple syrup. Sounds gross, but it’s the best.

Favourite colour: All things turquoise. Whether it’s seafoam, teal, or anything in between, I love it.

Favourite thing to wear in the fall: Hand knits, of course! Paired with my favourite teal blue leather jacket.

Head on over to our online store or Ravelry to purchase Siesta today.
