I wonder, how many people were like me and learned the word “glamping” for the first time when we picked up June’s club? It’s a term for “glamorous camping”.
Last time I camped was about 10 years ago, with basic tent and sleeping bag. Not even a soft matt was provided. My back was right against the hard, rocky ground, with only a blanket in between. That night I barely slept. I guessed that’s one of the reason stopped me from camping again.
But glamping makes camping as comfortable as staying at home… or much nicer because of the great views around. I thought having a sofa chair out there with my knitting would be nice, but I’ve now seen photos where glamping set-ups include having a real bed! I could totally live there and knit for the whole summer, no problem!
Ok, let’s come back to the knitting.
This time, Felicia suggested pairing up the variegated club colourway with a solid colour. I have used this method quite often (if not all the time). The projects I knitted for January and April clubs were the same idea. This method not only shows off the variegated colourway really well, it also gives my eyes some space to rest.
The pattern suggested in the insert was “Foolproof Cowl” by Zass-Bangham. If I didn’t knit a cowl with May’s club, I would definitely use this pattern. But for this very reason, I decided to knit a shawl instead.

The pattern I used was “Drea’s Shawl” by Craig Rosenfeld. I love this pattern. It’s a garter-stitch-only shawl, growing from one point into a parallel triangle. The composition is a simple striping plus colour block. I decided to pair “Glamping” with Birch (on glitterati) and Laurel (on tough love sock), because the light colour helped lighten the look of the entire piece. First of all, the combination fit well with a summer mood. Second, the light colour choice helped the navy and raspberry colours of the variegated yarn pop out more.
I started striping with “Glamping” and Birch. When I ran out of Birch, I attached Laurel to continue a few more rows until I was close the size I wanted. (The pattern had a stitch number to follow but I liked my shawl to be bigger.) Then I cut off variegated yarn and continue with Laurel only until the yarn ran out. That was about 600 meters in total; and I still have about half a skein of “Glamping” left! I could totally knit another colour combination with the leftover… maybe a dark semi-solid like Nightshade?
