Spring is here, and as the new week brings beautiful new growth outdoors along with changes and challenges through these uncertain times, we hope you are staying connected with fibre friends online and are enjoying the comfort in moments spent making with favourite yarns and uplifting colour. It’s been great to see all of the fun chat taking place in our School of SweetGeorgia community club for our 2020 Spring Make-Along which began last week. 2020 Exclusive Spinning Fibre Colourways!
Inspired by our love for the colours used in our new Spring Party of Five mini-skein sets, we’ve taken these same colours and dyed them onto a selection of some of our favourite fibres for spinning right now!
Easy and enjoyable spinning for spinners of all levels, the following three fibre bases are available:
- BFL+Silk // Bluefaced Leicester 75% and Tussah Silk 25% blended together for a very lustrous and luxurious top. BFL is one of the softest, glossiest medium-long wools (longer fibre staple length), and naturally more durable, making it a favourite spinning fibre for many. The glittery tussah silk in this blend adds to the softness and shine, making this an indulgence to spin.
- Merino+Tussah // this is a new-to-us blend of 80% fine merino wool and 20% tussah silk. This is soft and simply beautiful fibre that is irresistible to spin. Merino typically dyes lighter, but the silk takes dye so well, it helps add depth of colour and shimmer to the fibre. This merino wool has not been treated and is not machine washable. We recommend washing the yarn gently by hand.
- Targhee // Targhee is bred from Rambouillet, Columbia, Lincoln, and Corriedale crosses and produces a wool that has 25% long wool and 75% fine wool characteristics. This wool dyes beautifully and is super soft at approximately 23 to 23.5 microns. Targhee wool has a matte finish and feels spongey, making for wonderfully soft and lofty handspun yarns.
