Reimagined Three: a Shawl Capsule

There’ve been many times in my knitting life where I’ve needed a shot of inspiration to get the needle muses clicking again. This is going to sound a little crazy, but… sometimes that doesn’t mean buying a new pattern! Sometimes, it’s just a matter of reimagining an old favourite in fresh, colourful ways. We’ve done just that with the “Reimagined Three” patterns: Attu, Rivan, and Kiowa. By changing the yarn or the colour, creativity is let loose in endless directions. Three shawls, three variations, and each one as unique as if it were a whole new design. That’s the best part about knitting, don’t you think?

Start with an idea

Felicia and I talked about how much we miss traveling and exploring the world. There’s something about being outside of our normal space that helps us see things from a fresh perspective. Naturally, that idea fit perfectly with our desire to see our older patterns in new ways. Out of that conversation, we landed on Spain and Thailand for our first “wish we could travel there again” colour inspirations: dramatic greens, blues, reds, and oranges as gorgeous starting points.

From there, we considered the yardage needed for the pattern and experimented with incorporating different yarns: sock blanks, party of five sets, and full skein combinations. This meant slight modifications in the size or written instructions for some variations, but our sample knitters enjoyed the creative flex of their knitting muscles.
