As Felicia mentioned in last week’s Taking Back Friday vlog, Pantone’s colour choice for 2023 was announced at the end of last year and it is luxurious. Viva Magenta packs a powerful punch—a vivid and exuberant colour leading us into 2023. As shared on the Pantone site, The Pantone Color Institute originally created the Pantone Color of the Year educational program in 1999 to engage the design community and color enthusiasts around the world in a conversation around color.
At SweetGeorgia, our passion is for creating vibrant and stunning hues that stir the soul. We began with a desire to share the power and joy of colour. And it just so happens that this year’s Viva Magenta matches our SweetGeorgia colourway Oxblood! It is a bold and playful red encompassing all of the joy of this year’s colour trend.

Felicia recently worked with Superwash Worsted Oxblood when knitting her hat on the Sentro knitting machine.
If you’re looking for ideas to pair together with this year’s magenta choice, we’ve put together a few palette suggestions for working with the Oxblood colourway. Inspiration for perhaps a fun new colourwork or striped project, highlighted as weft in a new handwoven piece (see this project idea here) or or wherever the Viva Magenta excitement leads you!
If there is any project you’re looking at making and you would like some further recommendations, please reach out to us with any questions. We look forward to sharing more of our passion for fabulous hand-dyed colour with you. Happy making!
