About SweetGeorgia

SweetGeorgia was born out of a deep love for knitting, yarn, and making things.

Founded in 2004, Felicia Lo began writing about her journey through learning the fibre arts — from knitting to spinning to dyeing and weaving. In 2005, she started SweetGeorgia Yarns, a business creating hand-dyeing knitting yarns and spinning fibres. And in 2017, we launched our online school, the School of SweetGeorgia. Over the years, SweetGeorgia has grown into a production dye studio, online fibre arts school, and team of content creators who believe in the transformational power of colour and craft.

What we do

Mission

SweetGeorgia exists to inspire joy, life-long creativity, and learning through colour and craft.

Vision

The SweetGeorgia website is home to a vibrant global community of modern multicraftual makers. The community is a hive of creative activity, alive with a passion for craft, connecting makers from all ages and stages of life. SweetGeorgia is a hub of content, creators, and community designed to share the ideas, techniques, and projects around crafts, fibre arts, and textiles that inspire us.

SweetGeorgia Yarns designs, creates, and supplies uniquely hand-dyed, small-batch, artisan yarns and spinning fibres for knitters, crocheters, weavers, and spinners through an online shop as well as a network of independent retailers worldwide.

The School of SweetGeorgia is our modern learning community. We are creating the most accessible and effective online space for learning to knit, crochet, spin, weave, dye, and more. We are learner-centred and support makers as they discover the fibre arts — from fibre to yarn to fabric.

Core Values

Over the years, the things we collectively believe, practice, and value have revealed themselves, and we find that our work is about more than simply making pretty colours.

Colour Changes Everything

Colour has the power to comfort and heal, soothe or startle. Colour has the power to bring light and joy. How we see things changes everything.

Materials Matter

Stitch-by-stitch, inch-by-inch, making things by hand is labour of love. It is essential to us to source and make beautiful yarns that will endure over time.

Build for the Future

We honour the time, energy, and resources that are invested in creating. We focus on building and growing a library of useful assets, learning materials, and timeless designs that retain value.

Learning is Forever

This is our fundamental belief in a growth mindset and that we are all capable of learning and continuous improvement.

Why “SweetGeorgia”?

In 2005, when Felicia started the blog, she named it “sweetgeorgia” in anticipation of writing about her passion for baking bread and a dream of opening a bakery on Georgia Street in Vancouver.

The blog became a space to write about all sorts of interests (in addition to bread), including knitting, dyeing, and spinning and “sweetgeorgia” evolved into a dream about sharing the comfort that comes with craft.

SweetGeorgia Studio

The SweetGeorgia Studio in Vancouver, Canada serves as our brick and mortar retail storefront, our production dye studio where we dye all our hand-dyed yarns, our film studio where we create all our online courses, and our workspace where we share many, many meals together.

The studio is located at 102-334 East Kent Avenue South in Vancouver, British Columbia. You are welcome to visit us during weekdays from 10 am to 4 pm and on the second Saturday of each month from 11 am to 3 pm. We host a monthly “Knit at Noon” makers meetup from 11 am to 1 pm on the second Saturday of each month.
