Dive into knitting and motif design with Andrea Rangel’s Design Stranded Colourwork: Sweaters course, available at the School of SweetGeorgia! It includes aspects such as factoring garment fit into your design, swapping motifs, calculating shaping, and more. And as a special part of this course, Andrea also created the Falling Leaves Sweater pattern — a beautiful pullover which we use for demonstration purposes through the course. The fit is cozy and relaxed, perfect for curling up with a cup of tea as the weather chills.

DESIGN STRANDED COLOURWORK: SWEATERS
Andrea Rangel’s earlier course, Design Stranded Colourwork: Hats, shares how rewarding small projects can be for exploring motif and colour combinations. (Read more about the Wildflower Breeze Hat project here.) Hats are a perfect gateway into designing, offering a manageable scale to test your ideas.

But what if you’re ready to take your design dreams from accessories to garments? In Design Stranded Colourwork: Sweaters, Andrea Rangel dives deeper into motif design, tackling garment-specific calculations, and discussing the considerations for creating sweaters across a range of sizes.
FALLING LEAVES SWEATER PATTERN
Andrea designed the stunning Falling Leaves sweater just for this course, which we use through the online lessons for demonstration purposes. But you don’t have to use this design! Feel free to work with one of the many motifs from Andrea’s stitch dictionaries, KnitOvation and AlterKnit, or sketch your own using the graph paper motif template included in the course workbook. It’s an ideal template for swapping out colour motifs to customize your project.

The yoke of this bottom-up pullover is adorned with aspen leaves, changing colours like they’re travelling through autumn. The fit is cozy and relaxed, perfect for a crisp fall walk or curling up with some knitting and a cup of tea.
