I’ve been wanting to introduce our listeners to some of the really inspiring spinners that I’ve had a chance to meet over the years. Sara Lamb is a spinner, dyer, and weaver who has been my personal fibre hero for years now. Sara is a longtime local spinner and weaver who maintains a working studio in Grass Valley, California. She lectures and gives workshops in the US, Canada, Australia and England. Sara’s work has been published in many fiber-related books and magazines, she has received numerous awards, and has been included in many juried exhibitions. Her first book Woven Treasures was published by Interweave Press in Fall 2009. Her second book, Spin to Weave was published in 2013, and her third book, The Practical Spinner’s Guide to Silk was published in 2014, both also by Interweave Press. She also has two DVDs related to the books and they are called Spinning to Weave, and Spinning Silk. In this episode we talk about silk and spinning and the story of how Sara got started!

Felicia could you tell me what the fiber and color are for the picture on the title page of this podcast? I really enjoyed this podcast and I’m feeling inspired to spin some silk!
Hi Jackie! Looks like it is natural coloured yak and silk blend! This is the original photo: https://www.flickr.com/photos/69599765@N00/17669693828/in/dateposted/
Looks like you can purchase a similar (if not the same) fibre blend here: https://www.paradisefibers.com/ashland-bay-yak-silk-50-50.html
Enjoy!
