Episode 20: Stephannie Tallent on Designing with Cables and Lace

17 November, 2015

Today on the show, I am speaking with the very talented knitwear designer Stephannie Tallent who has written a number of knitting pattern books including California Revival Knits, Hitch: Patterns Inspired by the Films of Alfred Hitchcock, and a series of 5 e-books of garments and accessories inspired by the Wild West of Arizona called The Wild West Collection. Her designs are gorgeous, have fine details and always feel very thoughtful and inspired.

Stephanie lives in sunny and gorgeous Hermosa Beach in Southern California and I was very lucky to be able to visit her in California a couple years ago when she was working on California Revival Knits. But we actually first met in a super random way… we both were going to Sock Summit in 2011 and were waiting for a hotel shuttle at the Portland airport. The hotel shuttle ended up taking an hour and a half to arrive, so Stephannie and I got to chat quite a lot and we ended up working together over the past few years, with Stephannie tech-editing some of our very first SweetGeorgia patterns. Since that time, she’s become an extremely prolific knit designer, blogger, and now podcaster.

Breakwater Shawl Giveaway

Thank you so much to Stephannie for joining me on today’s episode. As we were talking about mixing up lace with cable techniques in Stephannie’s designs, she was wanting to share one of her newest patterns with our listeners. For our giveaway this week, we have a copy of Stephannie’s Breakwater Shawl as well as a skein of our Merino Silk Fine to go with the pattern. The shawl is a crescent shaped shawl worked from the bottom edge up using a fingering weight yarn. In this case, she’s used our SweetGeorgia Merino Silk Fine. The shawl features both cables and lace and finishes off with a garter stitch main body.

To win a copy of this book, listen to the episode to find out the secret phrase then visit the giveaway page to enter. Good luck! Update: Giveaway is now closed.

Thanks for Listening!

The giveaway link doesn’t work. Error “we’re in a knot” comes up

    1. Thanks for the update! I’ve fixed the link now!

  2. Hi Felicia, the same thing happened to me when I tried to enter directly with the podcast/020 URL. However just clicking on the Podcast and then the show and then the link to the giveaway page works. BUT when the giveaway page comes up it asks for the prompt and gives options from a previous episode. I put in that episode’s correct answer and it let me enter.

    1. Thanks Ramona! The new giveaway link should be working now :)
