Celebrating the Year of the Wood Dragon 2024, we created the fun and fiery colours of “Double Dragon“—a festive colourway to share the Lunar New Year joy with fibre arts makers. The red and yellow tones represent luck, happiness and success, creating a vibrant and eye-catching yarn that is perfect for crafting unique and meaningful projects to mark this special celebration. Allowing the opportunity for even further colour play, SweetGeorgia team member Anita was inspired to pair this colourway (and even more colourful yarn) with Felicia’s Five by Five cowl for a cozy new knit.

SWEETGEORGIA’S DOUBLE DRAGON COLOURWAY
Created for 2024 Lunar New Year, this unique colourway captures the essence of the dragon—a powerful and auspicious symbol in Chinese culture. The bright red symbolizes good fortune, joy, and happiness, while the golden yellow represents wealth, prosperity, and success. These rich speckled hues evoke a sense of excitement and energy, infusing your handmade pieces with a touch of luck.

Dyed on our most-popular Tough Love Sock base, this yarn knits up beautifully into fine-gauge sweaters, shawls, hats, as well as socks. Spun from super soft superwash merino and nylon, this 3-ply yarn is super versatile.

Five by Five with Double Dragon
Equipment
- 1 Circular Knitting Needles in size 7mm / US 10 3/4
- 1 Crochet Hook in any size suited to match your gauge
Materials
- 1 skein SweetGeorgia Yarns Tough Love Sock in Double Dragon
- 1 skein SweetGeorgia Yarns Tough Love Sock in Chili Pepper
- 1 skein SweetGeorgia Yarns Silk Mist in Mandarin
Instructions
- Download a copy of the free knitting pattern which is available at Ravelry and the SweetGeorgia online shop. You can also follow along with Felicia's step-by-step videos of knitting the Five by Five cowl at the @sweetgeorgia YouTube page.

- Holding all three strands together (one strand of each skein), cast on 45 stitches using a provisional cast-on. There are a few different ways to work a provisional cast-on. Anita used a crochet chain provisional cast-on (shown in the image) which requires a crochet hook and smooth waste yarn. You can find instructions for this in Felicia's video, along with an alternative option.

- Continuing to hold all three strands together, repeating the pattern rows until the cowl measures approx. 52" / 122 cm from the cast-on edge, ending with a WS row.Note that Anita knit until there was enough Silk Mist remaining to work the bind off and grafting (approx. 10 feet).

- Release the provisional cast-on and move the live stitches to a spare knitting needle.
- Graft the two ends together of the cowl together to form one continuous loop.
- Block the project as desired. Weave in ends.
