How to Twist a Skein of Yarn
From proper tension to keeping your skeins looking consistently twisted in the same direction, Felicia gives us handy tips to ensure our skein turns out beautifully every time, avoiding common hiccups along the way.

- Begin by checking that the yarn is lying flat and even. Check for any twists or tangles and straighten them out.
- Position your hands inside the skein to maintain tension and stability. Line up the ties of the skein, one set in each hand.
- With gentle tension, start twisting one arm forward and down in a clockwise motion.
- Determine the appropriate number of twists based on the size and weight of the yarn, typically around six or seven twists. Avoid over-twisting, which can make the skein too tight, or under-twisting, resulting in a loose skein.
- Once you've achieved the desired number of twists, fold the skein in half. Hold the folded skein under tension to keep it secure. Felicia tucks it under her chin.
- Tuck one end into the other to create the twisted skein!

Notes
Don’t feel discouraged if your first few skeins don’t look as you expect. With a little practice, they’ll soon become consistent, easy to store for future projects, and so beautiful that you’ll want to display them all over your home!
