On today’s Taking Back Friday episode, I’d like to share my favourite spots where I learned about craft, creativity, and making things on my recent trip to London.
My husband and I and our two kids had been planning this trip for about two years now — trying to find the right time to go. I recognise that we are so lucky to have had this opportunity to travel with our kids. Both my husband and I love London — it is one of my favourite places in the world. And now coming home from this trip, I feel like my brain is on fire. The city of London is very busy, but it’s also so vibrant. It’s the energy in the city which has brought me incredible inspiration over the years and this trip has been completely re-energizing.

I would love for you to tell me about your favourite place to travel to. Where have you gone that is good for exploring more about knitting, weaving, or textiles? Where do you find the most inspiration? I would love to hear about it in the comments!
In Scotland, three locations that are a must for anyone interested in tapestry are Stirling Castle with its 21st century recreations of seven Renaissance tapestries, (woven), and the onsite studio where some of the tapestries were woven; Galashiels with its Great Tapestry of Scotland (embroidered). This is made of 160! panels embroidered by experienced and new-to-the-craft Scots from across the country; and finally, Dovecot Studios in Edinburgh which weaves and tufts tapestries in collaboration with artists from other media. They also put on special exhibits – recently a collection of Andy Warhol fabric designs. Each is amazing, and interesting in its own way. And the locations outside Edinburgh are easily reached even without a car.
