Since everyone has *hopefully received their club in the mail, today, being almost the last day of the month, is Reveal Day! As most of you know, I spin for Sweet Georgia Yarns each month in order to share with you what the fibre club looks like actually spun up!

October’s Fibre Club is Superwash BFL. This brightly coloured month was inspired by Felicia’s recent trip to Taiwan and the ‘blood’ moon that has graced our skies this Fall. The recommendation was to spin a fractal yarn, which is exactly what I did.I wanted slightly longer colour repeats so I didn’t divide the braid as much as what was recommended for a super blended fractal spin. I would also love to see this braid of fibre Navajo-plied as I think it would be beautiful as well. I spun this during Spinzilla and enjoyed seeing the brightly coloured fibre flying through my hands as I spun!
For my fractal spin, I divided the braid horizontally into three stripes. The first I spun as it was end-to-end. The second, I divided twice and spun end-to-end. The third, I divided 4 times and spun each end-to-end.
BFL is a favourite among handspinners everywhere for a few reasons. First, the longer staple length makes it a favourite with newer spinners as drafts like the short forward draw create a glistening, lustrous yarn. Due to the slightly longer staple than the fine wools, spinners can hold their hands slightly further apart and practice these worsted draws without feeling as if their fibre is going to slip right out of their hands! Although the superwash quality of this particular fibre creates a slightly more slippery fibre, because it lends itself to anything from lace to bulky weight yarn, one can focus on enjoying the spin rather than worrying about thickness of the finished yarn.
I haven’t decided exactly what I’m going to knit with mine yet but I’m leaning towards socks knit at a sport-weight gauge (maybe 3.00mm needles?!) and enjoying these in my winter boots when we travel at Christmas.
