Secret Stash Club Reveal: Bird of Paradise

11 September, 2026

Get ready for colour! Introducing our September 2026 Secret Stash Club colourway, Bird of Paradise! Bursting with vibrant, vivid hues, this month’s Club yarn and fibre remind me of tropical fruits and flowers. Fuchsias, hibiscus, and of course, Bird of Paradise.

THE COLOURWAY STORY

Imagine it’s September and we just aren’t ready to let go of summertime fun. So I’m thinking of dragon fruit and gelato, sunshine and banana leaves. Where does your imagination go when you think of making summer last a little bit longer?

For the Yarn Club, you might notice that the yarn is more flecked and not completely dyed through. This is simply because bamboo is a cellulose/plant fibre that does not absorb the dyes that we use for wool. So the colourway produces an interesting effect with the haze of bamboo fibre. This hazy effect can also be seen in the Fibre Club braids.

PROJECT IDEAS

For the Yarn

With a bamboo-based sock yarn, I decided to crank some socks, obviously. The sharp, contrasting colours in the handpainted skein produce a fun, organic stripe throughout the sock.

You can use this fingering-weight yarn for all kinds of projects including crochet or weaving. This blend would also make a lovely lightweight scarf. As with any handpainted yarn, we suggest alternating ends or holding multiple strands together if you want to mitigate pooling. Or go for the full planned pooling effect, if you want big patches of strong colour.

For the Fibre

Earlier this year, in the School of SweetGeorgia, we experimented with blending bast fibres like linen and hemp with wool as well as cellulose fibres like cotton with wool. In this month’s fibre, we’ve done the blending for you!

Handspun yarn from this fibre blend will look a bit hazy because of the undyed bamboo fibre. This handpainted fibre offers many opportunities for colour management in spinning — whether you want to chain-ply or barber pole, combo-spin or combo-ply, spin singles or spin 4-ply for socks. There is an option for every spinner.

If you need some guidance, we have a complete catalog of spinning courses at the School, taught by an experienced and engaged team of spinning instructors. If you’re not already a member, use the code EXPLORETHESCHOOL to save 15% on an All-Access monthly membership.
