Welcome to Rose-Coloured Glasses, our first colourway reveal part of the brand new colour club we’re calling Secret Stash! Each month, join us as we share a special colourway we’ve concocted in the SweetGeorgia dye studio, telling stories through our colours and sharing how we see the world. Further to revealing these hand-dyed hues, we will also share ideas to inspire your next project.
FELICIA’S ROSE-COLOURED GLASSES STORY
Many years ago, in the journey of creating this dye studio and business, I hit a crossroads. I remember having to choose between two paths — one path was continuing along as a designer and working to tell other people’s stories and the other path was to walk into something completely unknown with the fibre arts. So there I was, dyeing yarn for fun… and then there was a singular moment when the sunshine hit the colour of the yarn just so, creating a radiant glow of gold and silk… and I just knew that this is what I was meant to do.
I believed the idea that colour changes everything. I believed that colour could comfort you, soothe you, and lift you up. And I believed in the power of colour to transform mood and perspective.
It’s this belief that I have been coming back to, over and over, this past year. The challenges around having to move our dye studio unexpectedly and rebuild from scratch again forced me to ask the hard questions… “If this is what SweetGeorgia is meant to do, then why is it so difficult? Are we even meant to do this?” I had to remind myself that the power of colour is that it can shift your perspective.
Seeing life through rose-coloured glasses is about living from the perspective of optimism and positivity. A life that is awash with warm pink hues is softer, sweeter, and kinder. Taking this to the extreme might mean having an unrealistic perception of life. But in this case, our colourway is gentle and so rich with nuance and detail. Faded amber, salmon, peach, and sherbert all seem to undulate through this colourway. These colours make me want to breathe deeply, see the good in things, appreciate and savour the details of a full life, and focus on what’s life-giving and true.
PROJECT IDEAS
Included with each Secret Stash Club shipment, we share some of our favourite project ideas for your new hand-dyed colourway. With the soft variations of rosy pinks, these skeins would look lovely as single-skein lace shawls. Or perhaps even as a silky camisole for summer.
