After a winter of rain and rushing storms, spring has arrived early here in the Pacific Northwest. We are already spotting the first signs of the season in our neighbourhoods, from swelling cherry blossom buds to the fresh promise of new growth. That gentle shift in the light inspired us to dye a mini-skein palette that feels like an early spring garden: soft, clear tints touched with florals, grounded by a calm, natural neutral. Introducing our April 2026 Secret Stash Yarn Club ‘Spring Mix’, a set designed for joyful colourwork and sweet little accents.
THE INSPIRATION BEHIND SPRING MIX
We’ve seen spring time come early to the Pacific Northwest after our “pineapple express” weather this winter. At the end of February, we already had cherry blossom buds popping up on the neighbourhood trees!
We wanted to create a set of mini-skeins in a palette that would evoke the light, delicate colours of spring. The early crocus, lilacs, bluebells, and lily of the valley flowers that add a touch of colour to those early spring gardens.
Spring Mix is hand-dyed on a new-to-us yarn base that we are exploring. The wooly nature of this yarn base gives us the ability to work fine colourwork projects.
PROJECT IDEAS
In this palette, the purple, blue, and green are all light and clear tints that will provide a bit of hue contrast, but we suggest using them with the beige to generate the most contrast.
This yarn would be ideal for stranded colourwork projects that will be washed and steeked since the wool will full together and keep from unravelling. Another option is to combine these four mini-skeins with another skein of yarn to create a larger project — use these mini-skeins as accent colours!
For this month’s sample project, Charlotte Lee designed a couple of mug cozies using the “Basic Doodle Cup Cozy” pattern. She also created a crochet colourwork pattern using a few of the colours.
