Secret Stash Club Reveal: Summer at the Lake

1 August, 2025

Dive into the beauty of summer with our August 2025 Secret Stash Club colourway: Summer at the Lake! This month, we’ve hand-dyed our SweetGeorgia Double Sock Blank yarn to capture the serene blues, greens, and aquas of a sparkling, summer lake. Each skein reflects the glassy, refreshing feel of a cool dip on a hot August day, with subtle speckles and lighter spots reminiscent of sunlight dancing on water. Unravel the magic and let your next project shimmer with the essence of summer!

“SUMMER AT THE LAKE” COLOUR STORY

The inspiration for this month’s colourway was the glassy, clear, and refreshing feel of a dip in the lake… the perfect thing to cool down on a hot, sunny August day.

These blue, green, and aqua colours turned out beautifully on our double sock blank yarn. When you dye a sock blank, the knitted stitches work like a bit of a natural resist and creates some lighter spots in the yarn. So when you unravel the yarn, the colours look almost speckled — like a ray of sunshine hitting the water and glittering in the light.

PROJECT IDEAS

Hand-dyed double sock blanks are a fantastic way to get two identical socks or projects, each using approximately 50 g of yarn. Some ideas would be matching socks or matching wrist warmers. Felicia used her Erlbacher circular sock machine (CSM) to crank this month’s Club into two matching socks, and we’re in love with the result!

If you want to knit two-at-a-time socks and you don’t mind the kinks in the yarn, you can knit from the double sock blank without unravelling it at all. However, a challenge you might find with a Double Sock Blank is the yarn wrangling to separate the two strands of yarn. This video tutorial shows how to use a yarn swift to separate the two strands into two hanks.

You can also knit or crochet a worsted-weight project using both strands of yarn held together, straight from the sock blank. This month’s studio sample, the Creekside Cables Cowl, is a great example of this. Read more about the cowl project here.
