Included with each of our Secret Stash Club shipments, we’re sharing project ideas to help inspire what to make with your new hand-dyed hues. For our March 2024 Club yarn, Winter’s End, Charlotte paired this enchanting colourway along with Fable from our Ethereal Collection. Knitting these two alongside each other using Tabetha Hedrick’s Kiowa shawl design, resulted in a truly stunning piece.

ABOUT WINTER’S END

As Felicia shared in the story behind our March colourway Winter’s End, here in the Pacific Northwest we’ve had a really unusual, but not unprecedented, warm winter. That typically wouldn’t be a big deal except if your kids’ main winter activity is attempting to learn alpine ski racing. In the middle of winter, the 5 am drive to Whistler up the Sea-to-Sky highway is pitch black. There are very few lights along the way, so much of the drive is lit by your own headlights. At any time,  you can only see about 20 feet in front of you. I’m driving 100 km an hour and sometimes it feels like I’m going nowhere. I’m just in darkness, not knowing what turn is coming next.

Despite it being a bit gruelling to do these early morning drives, I am already grieving it a bit. When will be the last time we do these long drives together? When will these winters come to an end?

KNITTING WITH OUR MARCH CLUB

For this month’s Club yarn, Charlotte chose to partner the Winter’s End colourway with something to accentuate the soft and subtle rosy nuances in the skein, and the Fable colourway fits in perfectly side by side with Winter’s End. A fun and easy knit accessory, Tabetha Hedrick’s popular Kiowa shawl design highlights these colours in a delightful interplay of patterning. These two hand-dyed colourways come together in a beautiful shawl that adds a complimentary pop of colour to any outfit.

For our quarterly fibre club, Winter’s End was also dyed on our Polwarth+Silk spinning fibre base. This base is a beautiful combination that is easy to draft, super soft, and has a decadent shimmer from the silk. Winter’s End could create a delicate mixing and blending of colours through fractal spinning. We’d love to see a handspun Winter’s End Kiowa shawl project version!
