There’s a sense of peace that comes when you’re standing at the edge of where the ocean touches the sand. Toes curling into the fine grains, I can’t help but stare mesmerized at the flow that churns bits of shell around my ankles. Under the glow of the sun, bright hues of peach and custard, pinks and blues blend, erasing lines into a shimmering illusion. Time both speeds up and stills. But, we’ll try to capture a moment within that bliss for our next Mystery Knit-Along (MKAL)! The Carolina Waves MKAL will run from August 27 – October 7th.
Inspired by coastal communities, we’ve created six different colour sets and they include FIVE skeins of Tough Love Sock in a colour palette that will sure to make you feel excited about. Most of the sets include our Spring/Summer 2019 palette. If you need help choosing, Tabetha knitted her shawl using Gold Coast.
You’ll need FIVE skeins of fingering weight yarn. This large asymmetrical shawl is worked sideways in five colours. The original sample uses very similar colours for a subtle transition between the stitch patterns – almost a monochromatic gradient, but you can easily go bold or bright.
Here are a few tips from Tabetha for choosing you colour combination:
- Colours of the same tone and different saturations (such as a light, medium, and dark blue) for a monochromatic feel
- Colours that contrast each other greatly for a bold experiment
- You might also think in terms of shades next to each other on the colour wheel
- Choose the lightest colour for MC and the boldest / darkest colour for CC1
As Tabetha notes, your gauge should be 22 sts and 48 rows in garter stitch, UNBLOCKED and UNSTRETCHED
All patterns are sold separately and not included with purchase of yarn.
