From home decor, blankets, sweaters, accessories and more, you can find textured crochet stitches in many places. These beautiful stitches add a pleasing visual and tactile element to any crocheted fabric. At Charlotte Lee’s online workshop at the School of SweetGeorgia (SOS), Charlotte shares examples of adding this texture into one of her crochet designs, the Vivi shawl. Learn tips and techniques on how to work these fun crochet stitches and be inspired by one of the projects reimagined as part of this course, with project notes listed below.
EXPLORE CROCHET TEXTURES AT THE SCHOOL
Ever since Charlotte started filming for the School, this course has been on her mind. The three popular textured crochet stitches: bobble stitch, puff stitch, and popcorn stitch, are widely used in all kinds of crochet designs. The techniques may look complicated, but they are all built upon the crochet double stitch.
At the Crochet Textures course at the School, Charlotte walks you through how to work each of these stitches. She also explains how to interchange these stitches within textured patterns to help you with feeling confident in making a project completely your own. Included in the course workbook, you can also find five variations of her Vivi shawl design, offering creative ideas to personalize the shawl.

If you are just beginning your crochet journey, then we suggest working through Charlotte’s Crochet Basics course first. The helpful video lessons help teach everything needed to get started with this fun fibre craft.
THE REIMAGINED VIVI SHAWL
One of the Vivi shawl variations Charlotte worked up for the course highlights the crochet puff stitch using our SweetGeorgia Superwash DK yarn. The puff stitch showcases 3-cluster, 4-cluster, and 5 clusters stitches. It is important to keep this stitch loose, which Charlotte demonstrates in the SOS course, as you can struggle if the stitch is made too tight. As long as we keep this in mind, it is a very easy stitch to work.
Vivi is crocheted from the top down, with stitches added on both sides as well as in the center. With the three hand-dyed hues softly graduating from one colour to the next, the result is a dreamy shawl perfect for cozying up in. It’s a fun accessory you’ll want to make again and again.
