We hope you’re celebrating National Crochet Month with us! If you’re joining in to crochet the Coast to Colour Shawl, we’re ready to help you get started with a step-by-step tutorial on the Coast to Colour stitch. Below, you’ll find both the video tutorial and written instructions.

Instructions
 

Setup/Row 1

  • Make a slip knot and chain 4. Slip stitch into the first chain to form a ring. (You can use a magic ring if you prefer.)
  • Chain 4.
  • Work 3 double crochets into the centre of the ring.
  • Chain 3.
  • Work 3 more double crochets into the centre of the ring.
  • Chain 1, then work 1 double crochet.

Row 2

  • Turn your work.
  • Chain 4.
  • Work 3 double crochets into the first chain space. Chain 1.
  • Work 3 double crochets into the large chain-three centre space (the spine of the shawl).
  • Chain 3.
  • Work 3 more double crochets into the same chain-three centre space. Chain 1.
  • Work 3 double crochets into the last chain-one space.
  • Chain 1, then double crochet into the third chain on the edge, making sure to catch both legs of the chain.

Row 3, 4, 5… until the end…

  • Repeat Row 2 for each additional row until the shawl reaches your desired size. Always work three double crochets into each chain-one space and maintain the spine of the shawl at the chain-three space.
