Things Need to Change, So I Started a Second YouTube Channel

22 November, 2024

Let’s just say, I am okay with change. I am okay with taking risks. And I am okay with starting over. I have been wrestling with something for the past several years and I think it’s finally time to make a change. As we get closer to the end of this year, I’ve decided that I don’t want to go into the new year doing the same thing I’ve always done.

I have been making content about the fibre arts for the internet in some way, shape, or form since 2004. I started writing about knitting, spinning, dyeing, and later weaving, on a blog called SweetGeorgia. It led me to start the SweetGeorgia Yarns company plus an online fibre arts school, the School of SweetGeorgia. Now, in order to learn about how to make videos for the School, I started making YouTube videos in 2017. This was all meant to be practice, but it has really become one of my favourite ways of making content. I can show you up close about how things work, or what I’m most excited about. I love making videos about what I’m making.

But now here is the problem. For the past several years, I have been feeling split apart. I’ve talked about this in previous videos… I know in myself that I’m a multicraftual maker that loves it all. And I want to talk about it all. And I want you to also learn and do it all, because it’s fun! But at the end of the day, this is not how content distribution works. I’m trying to think if there are better ways to meet people in this new media landscape… even if we have to start from zero.

Thank you so much for being here with me on this journey, and I hope that I will see you inside our big, happy SweetGeorgia community.

  1. I love to watch all your videos. You do a wonderful job whatever the topic is. So whatever you need to do to make it all work better and for people to see them…I say go for it!

    1. Thank you so much for the support Meg!! I appreciate it!

  2. Carole Stalcup says:

I’m hoping you will not stop doing CSM videos. You inspired me to oil mine up and learn how to use it.

    1. Thank you Carole! I love knitting with my CSM so I still plan to make more CSM videos :) Glad you are using yours too!

  3. Do you think you’ll migrate content from one channel to another? This would probably break links people have on their personal sites to your old content, so you you think you’ll re-upload them to the new YT, record new versions (which gives a chance to edit), or just begin from where you are now knowing that people like me who searched for weaving content still found you despite all the knitting stuff you post?
I’m so excited to see you blossom and expand your impact on this world. All the best ♡
